Unique Birth: Gorilla Twins 2013-06-13 Burgers’ Zoo Arnhem, The Netherlands

This is three minutes and nineteen seconds of sheer tenderness coming from one of the strongest animal on our planet. What is fascinating is those two extremes coming from, what seems like a block of concrete on a first encounter.

Enjoy it and let me know what your impressions were 🙂

2013-06-13 In the Dutch Burgers’ Zoo in Arnhem a unique moment took place, N’Gayla a gorilla in captivety gave birth to twins. It was known that the 20-year-old female gorilla was pregnant, but not that she was expecting two baby gorillas, furthermore special was that she was expected to give birth later this summer. Main Carer Wilco Limpers: “At first I didn’t notice that she was having a twin birth, I was filming N’Gayla how she licked her young born clean and ate the afterbirth, then N’Gayla suddenly grabbed something out from the straw:.. another gorillaaaaaa! I really did not know what I saw.A twin birth from gorillas is only occurs about once or twice every ten years in European zoos. “Gorillas usually get only one young at a time. Twin births are for them rarer than in humans. Mother and babies are doing well and the newborns have been seen drinking. Mother N’Gayla literally has her hands full with her little ones.
Gorillatweeling verrast Burgers’ zoo. In de Arnhemse dierentuin Burgers’ Zoo is in de nacht van woensdag op donderdag 12/13 juni 2013 een gorillatweeling geboren. Moeder is N’Gayla , vader is Bauwi. Music: My First Love by Ernesto Cortazar.

  3. So beautiful. It makes my heart break when I think of what poachers do to gorillas, it’s so sad they can’t be safe in the wild. At least this zoo looks like a nice home for them if they have to be in captivity.

    • Indeed we would like them to be safe in the wild but much has been done to do so, nevertheless there’s still a long way to go. There’s today much more information given to the locals on the benefits gotten by preserving their nature resource and it’s slowly taking shape… So, it’s never too late to correct the past 🙂
