Best wishes for warm healthy safe holidays to all.
Do you remember the time I opened another category under ” Natural recipes ” and promised to post anything from cakes to cosmetics or natural household products recipes?
Well, here it is…
As I mentioned in another post, in the past I had immersed myself for a year and a half in the possibility of living a ” cleaner ” life on a daily basis not only with the foods I was eating which was already a habit but with the products I was using day in day out for the household as much as for the family’s hygiene as soaps, shampoos, creams…
I found on the internet a lot of material which I adapted to my needs, some recipes were amazing, so I suggest you all do your own research too but others I tried were not practical or were too time consuming to produce so, I had to find my own solutions, something faster and more effective which brings me back to the blush problem.
I tried many which were too powdery, sticky, bland… A lot had beetroot powder in, I did my own as I was not yet familiar with Ebay but it was not fine enough so, eventually I got down to ordering on Ebay a packet which was really cheap considering how long it lasts and applied it directly on my moisturizer (of natural unrefined Shea butter with vitamin E I add to it which is very good for the skin as a healing agent) I had applied on my face even though someone had told me it could stay as a permanent color which would not be that tragic, it could save time 😉
Just kidding it never stayed that long and gave a beautiful color if put in small amount obviously.
Much later I got to know about a 98%-100% natural blush which seemed a better option, maybe because we tend to use more the bought stuff which looks professional and appealing to the eye and started using the two, according to my mood.
I’m am sure each country or state must have their own natural cosmetic brand but it could also be bought on the internet.
Mine is called UNE and I found out England and the U.S have their own brand too.
I hope this information was of some value to my readers and would love to hear from your brand if you have one and how you purchased it.
Until five years ago, I always bought expensive Gluten flour to make homemade Seitan.
Then, I just bought it ready made as the difference in price was not worth the hassle.
That is until I found a easy recipe explaining how to do it from scratch with plain flour.
When someone had proposed to show me how to do it about ten years ago I totally refused. It
sounded so very complicated…
Now, I make Seitan myself, the quickest, cheapest ( The price of less than a kilo of flour)
and easiest way!
Seitan dough recipe
1. 5 cups white flour
2. 2 Tbsp salt
3. 2 cups water
Put in a electric mixer or in a bowl all the ingredients. Knead until it has the regular dough texture.
Let it sit for 30 mn.
Put lump of dough in sifter with bowl underneath, let tap running. Squeeze dough for 5-10 mn
until water is clear.
Make sure nothing is left on the side of sifter. That is your gluten and it’s done!
3 to 6 tsp spices for 7 cups of flour
For Asian flair: Garlic, onion, ginger
Italian flair: Basil oregano, sage, rosemary
Mexican: Garlic, cumin, silatro, hot pepper
What is popular by me is, garlic, oregano, pili-pili ( hot pepper ) salt, paprika.
I fry it for about 30 mn or I put it on a fire, in tomato sauce with the same spices I use in the
Seitan dough. Sometimes I’ll put in in the oven in a bit of oil in a closed heat resistant glass bowl,
for 50 mn on 177 Degrees Celsius = 350 Degrees Fahrenheit.
Throw small balls in the soup, or fry with onions… there are endless possibilities!
I never dared to adventure in the sourdough ” area ” thinking it was the hardest thing to do but, it really is not.
It is the easiest thing possible, the healthiest, doesn’t contain sugar ( only if you wish so ) it is good for those who are
yeast intolerant or have egg intolerance but you have the choice to use it if you want.
The sourdough starters just needs time to pick up. It takes a few seconds to do, you then let it work for a few days.
The taste doesn’t have to be a strong one, it is up to you to choose if you want it to rise longer or not. The taste
will be determined by that factor.
With time, you will know the exact way you want it.
The lengthy time used for the starters is just a one time thing. After that you keep it in the fridge, take it out a day
before you want to bake another loaf and just add a cup of flour and one of warm water before you make a loaf. Then, add once again the same amount of flour and water in the starters, before you store it back in the fridge,
so you have enough for the next time you feel like baking.
Let me know how it came out for you!
Sourdough starters recipe
1. 1 cup of flour ( you can choose white, wholewheat or Spelt )
2. 1 cup of warm water
Whisk and leave it 24 hrs in room temperature, cover with paper or cloth. Stir a couple of times.
Day two- Feeding the starters
Mix again. Remove half and add more flour and water.
1. 1/2 cup flour
2. 1/2 cup warm water
Whisk it cover again. Stir a couple of times. leave 24 hrs.
Bubbles build up. Add half a cup of warm water and flour, stir and leave 24 hrs.
Sourdough is ready!
1. Add 1 cup flour
2. 1 Cup warm water
Mix. Let it sit. Cover with cloth or paper for 8-10 hrs ( depending on how warm the kitchen is )
1. 2 cups of sponge ( sourdough starters )
2. 2 tsp salt
3. 1/2 tsp rice syrup or sugar ( I put 2 Tbsp when I wanted sweeter and 4 Tbsp for real sweet )
4. 2 Tbsp oil ( of your choice. Sesame, olive, sunflower… )
5. 2 1/2 cup flour ( wholewheat, white, half white regular or Spelt )
1. Throw all ingredients in bowl, stir by hand, add another 1/2 cup of flour if necessary ( it should be soft enough to scoop it with a spoon, you don’t have to shape it )
2. Put in a glass or stainless steel loaf tin with baking sheet in, if you put a minimum sugar or syrup, you can improvise a Italian bread by sprinkling Oregano herbs, olive
oil, salt, Paprika powder and pepper, they’ll love it!
3. Let it rise overnight but remember to cover it. Then, slide in unheated oven on 175 Degrees Celsius = 347 Degrees Fahrenheit for 40 mn if it’s a flatter shape and 50 mn for
a regular loaf.
4. Take out and enjoy with your close ones, they’ll love it! 🙂
5. Please! Remember to add one more cup of flour and one of warm water in the starters glass jar so, you’ll have enough to store back in fridge for future recipes. you can seal
the jar and place in the fridge for as long as you want. I was told it stays good for just a few weeks but, was proven otherwise when I left it for much longer without it spoiling in the least.
I hope it was clear enough, if you have any question let me know.
As I posted yesterday James Wong Natural remedies, I thought of starting today, with the simplest and easiest discoveries I made ( after my holidays ) while researching on the internet for any natural solution to the regular use of soaps, cosmetics, face wash…
Face wash was my priority. I have a very dry skin and up till then I had to wash it with pure… water! Soaps or anything chemical gave the sensation of my skin pulling to the extreme.
So, I went to work for quite a long time until I found on you tube someone who had about the same problem and found that Honey was the best answer. It had antiseptics and antibacterial properties, it can fight infection in wounds, can fight allergies… and as it’s for external use, there’s not much counter indication in case people have some kind of intolerance ( unless their skin is sensitive to it which I have never experienced. )
It can be applied straight on the face, in the shower or bath so it can wash off properly.
I have since then, advised close ones who used it and were very happy with the results. Let me know what you think of it 🙂
P.s Up till one year of age, children should not eat Honey as it contains Botulinum Endospores!
This essay was written a while ago, but I thought it might help others struggling, if it does, all the better!
After two full years of constant relapses, we can get desperate.
So, knowing it’s, this or nothing, we go back to O.A literature we’d given up in dejection, and as we read the
book ” Hope for today ” of O.A, we are struck by three words that keep recurring.
Detachment, seems, ( at least for the people who get too involved or entangled ) to be one of the keys to success
Well, if we remove ourselves from situations and sometimes people, ( in a positive sense, meaning, right time, right
place ) we’d put less energy, taking to heart THEIR lives or situation and have more left ” to put our house in order ”
If we observe people who are detached, they might seem aloof or cold, but all they are doing is keeping their lives
much simpler than ours.
Asking for forgiveness is something we think everyone practices, when harming another.
We feel betrayed, hurt and trampled on, when apologies do not occur. We wait, for recognition of their acts. For
responsibility to be taken, as it’s usually done, after calmly reassessing a situation.
Years go by and we are still waiting… Wasting our time, and on occasion, using food as a temporary relief, when it suddenly dawns on us…
Forgiveness will never be asked for, but what stops us from going on with OUR lives? It doesn’t stop OUR forgiveness.
Forgiveness is something I do with my H.P’s help and I do it for me. I don’t need anyone’s apology to begin my healing
process. ( Hope for today. page 274 )
We cannot absorb the meaning of those words all at once. Only later, does it hit us with it’s full impact.
All the hurt, had actually nothing to do with our getting on, living and being happy.
People can choose to stay stuck in THEIR place, but we can and will, live, in its true sense from now on.
Before, everything seemed, one big, muddled heap, but now, we can divide it in two parts. People asking for forgiveness and taking responsibility, is one part that belongs to them and our lives, is the second part that belongs to us.
Free, clean and pure.
Only with that realization are we clear to burst forth, with life, energy and joy.
Simplify our existence instead of wallowing in the past and wasting precious time. Only then, are we clean. After years of
dragging the muck of a dead past, we don’t have to own it. People have attitudes, which we were involuntary witnesses of,
WE don’t have to carry it.
That is forgiveness. Not bearing excessive luggage and forgiving ourselves for having done so until now. That’s the detachment needed too. Knowing what is ours and what is theirs.
Emptiness is something everyone has to deal with, one time or another, but occasionally, there is a need to read about others
experiences to fully accept it. We don’t always imbibe the meaning of the term Emptiness and for some, it can be further from
their mind than the moon is to earth.
Emotions tend to dig themselves so deep in the psyche, we might have had a hard time excavating them, had we had the possibility
to do so. Filling the space, emptiness brings, with food, is never the solution, we just end up having to confront two predicaments.
So, here we are, on a holiday, a break or simply at home relaxing, where one has time to ” digest ” ideas we normally would happily
discard, clarity is given an opportunity and before we know it, we are awarded with a second chance to life. But… Sporadically,
our mind takes back old habits ( we never change that fast 🙂 ) and we wonder… Will that feeling last? That sense of elation, freedom
and joy? Will it leave its emblem guiding our ” vista ” or will we go back to our old resentments.
We do not have a clue.
All we can do is ” keep it simple ” live the moment fully, absorb the information and go on from there, to the place we really want to be.
A borough where serenity is king.
