How Do YOU Define Yourself Lizzie Velasquez at TEDxAustinWomen

This is a video you won’t forget so soon 🙂
13.10 mn of bravery, wisdom & a lot more each one of you is going to take in his/her own way.
I have learnt from it that the body is a shell if without a soul & hers shines through the darkest of tunnels as bright as can be… it is full of humor, upbeat, ambitious so deep & wise you can’t go any further (Through Media’s unique emphasis on it we just got sidetrack for a bit too long 🙂 )

There is so much to learn, to take with, remember where our priorities should be if we want to reach our full potential & never doubt in each & everyone of us when we think we don’t mean that much…

We all have a place on this planet.

n a time when beauty is defined by supermodels, success is defined by wealth, and fame is deified by how many followers you have on social media, Lizzie Velasquez asks the question how do you define yourself? Once labeled, “The Worlds Ugliest Woman,” Lizzie decided to turn things around and create her own definitions of what she defines as beauty and happiness.

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in local community. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.*

The way we understand our intelligence and abilities deeply impacts our success. Based on social science research and real life examples, Eduardo Briceño articulates how mindset, or the understanding of intelligence and abilities, is key. When students or adults see their abilities as fixed, whether they think they’re naturals or just not built for a certain domain, they avoid challenge and lose interest when things get hard. Conversely, when they understand that abilities are developed, they more readily adopt learning-oriented behaviors such as deliberate practice and grit that enable them to achieve their goals. But this belief is itself malleable, and there are clear actions we can all take to establish a growth mindset and enable success for our children, our peers and ourselves.

Eduardo Briceño is the Co-Founder and CEO of Mindset Works (http://www.mindsetworks.com), an organization that helps schools and other organizations cultivate a growth mindset culture. The growth mindset was discovered by Stanford professor and Mindset Works co-founder Carol Dweck, Ph.D., and is described in her book Mindset: The New Psychology of Success (http://www.mindsetonline.com). Mindset Works offers Brainology, an innovative blended learning program to teach a growth mindset to students, teachers and schools, as well as teacher professional development and tools (http://www.mindsetworks.com/brainology/).

Susan Cain: The power of introverts: TED TALKS: documentary, lecture, talk

This is a tribute to all the introverts… A reminder to appreciate the hidden genius that comes forth if you accept and love who you are 🙂
I accidentally got on this unique TED show (which I find quite fascinating thanks mostly to the bloggers I follow, who post quite regularly the popular ones.)
I hope you enjoy the depth and philosophical analysis of her speech.
Let me know the impressions it left on you 🙂

Susan Cain: The power of introverts: TED TALKS: documentary, lecture, talk

In a culture where being social and outgoing are prized above all else, it can be difficult, even shameful, to be an introvert. But, as Susan Cain argues in this passionate talk, introverts bring extraordinary talents and abilities to the world, and should be encouraged and celebrated.

Our world prizes extroverts — but Susan Cain makes a case for the quiet and contemplative.
